“If These Chains Could Talk”

“If These Chains Could Talk” is a book of letters written by teenage inmates who offer ‘off the chain’ advice to students, parents, teachers, the faith-base organizations and the community-at-large. Burney illuminates the stories of young  males, ages 13 to 18,  who serve as ‘messengers’ to other teens by encouraging them to stay in school, stay out of trouble, and graduate to the next level.
The dramatic letters, direct from prison, offer life-saving advice and provides a raw and personal perspective into the lives young adults yearning for love. uadreams

While serving as Executive Director of The Project Reach Foundation, Inc., Betty Burney began writing the book by mentoring young men who had been incarcerated as adults.  One day she asked the inmates to write letters of advice to many of the truant students enrolled in schools assisted by The Project Reach Foundation.  The letters offered profound advice and evolved into a book that has since become extremely beneficial to the education community.   The dramatic letters provide a raw and close-up look into the lives of yearning-to-be-loved inmates.
